The form said the signature image is too wide. I looked at the scan. 4000 pixels across. The box on the site was something like 300. The site did not want my A4 scanner’s idea of a signature. It wanted a small picture of the same scribble.
This happens with photos too. Passport photo slot. Logo slot. A shop licence photo. The error is “dimensions” or “width” or just “invalid”. People then compress for kb and the width is still 4000. Wrong tool first.
Set width, height follows
Open Resize Image. Drop the image. Type width in px. Height follows so the photo does not stretch. Download.
If the form said 300 width, type 300. If they said 200 x 60 for a signature, that is two numbers. Our simple resize is width only, height keeps the shape. A signature scan that is a whole A4 with one small autograph at the bottom will become a tiny autograph on a still-tall page. Crop on the phone first. Cut the empty paper. Then set width 300.
I am not the portal. I do not claim their 300 as a national rule. Read the form. Type that number.
Your file is not uploaded to our server. The scan stays in the tab. Fine for a signature. Still, do not leave the download on a cafe PC.
20 MB cap. A 4000 px jpg is usually under that. A tiff from a fancy scanner may not even be a happy drop. Save jpg or png, then resize.
Width should be between 16 and 8000 on this tool. 300 is in the middle. 4000 is allowed as input. The output is the width you type.
I had a chairman signature, scanned at 600 dpi, almost 5000 px. Form wanted 150 px height-ish. I cropped the ink, then width 400, height followed to something the box ate. If I had typed 150 width on the full A4, the ink would be 20 px of nothing.
Crop, then resize. Same sermon as the 200 kb story, different number.
Signature, logo, photo, all the same math
Signature: black pen on white. Crop tight. Resize width. If the site wants jpg, you already have jpg. If they refuse png, convert. White background is ok for signatures.
Logo: png with transparency. Resize still works, png stays png if you dropped png. Some sites then say no png. PNG to JPG after, or before. White will fill. The logo on a letterhead may look boxed. That is the site, not you.
Photo: they want 200 px width and also 50 kb. Resize to 200, then Compress Image. Width first.
People type 300 and expect 300 kb. Px is not kb. 300 px wide can be 20 kb or 200 kb. Check File Size Checker if they also wrote a size cap.
I write the form’s words on a sticky. “Max width 300 px, max 50 kb.” Two jobs. Resize. Compress. Check.
If you only compress, 4000 px at quality 70 is still 4000 px. The form measures pixels. It does not care that you made the file lighter. It says too wide.
If you only resize to 300 and the file is still 2 MB because it is a png screenshot of a signature in a huge canvas, convert to jpg. The box may still only care about px. Some care about both.
Stretching. If you force a fat signature into a 300 x 80 box by typing both numbers in a different program, the name becomes a pancake. Our resize does not stretch. Height follows. If their box is a wide strip, crop the signature to a wide strip first, then set width 300. The height will be small, which is what they wanted.
I do not use Paint resize on a borrowed PC with a different dpi guess. I use this tab. Same every time.
When the form still says invalid
Wrong type. They want jpg, you sent png. Convert.
Wrong kb. Resize done, file still heavy. Compress.
Wrong crop. Signature cut off. Crop again, include the full name.
Password does not apply to a jpg signature. If they asked a pdf of the signature page, that is another tool after the image is the right width.
Grey button: drop first. File under 20 MB. Wait while it works.
Phone Chrome is ok for one signature. I prefer the office PC because I can see the px number without fat-fingering.
Do not email me the signature to resize. Drop it yourself. Close the tab.
Some boards write pixels in a pdf instruction from 2018. The live form may differ. Trust the error you see this year.
A boy in July had a 4000 px selfie for a 200 px box. He compressed to 40 kb. Still 4000 px. Site rejected. Resize Image to 200, about 18 kb, accepted. He had spent an hour on quality sliders for no reason.
A shop licence photo, 3500 px, box 800. Typed 800. Height followed. Upload worked. He had been trying 100 kb compress and the width never moved.
I keep a cheap ruler story for the intern. The form box is a small window. Your 4000 px scan is a bedsheet. You cannot stuff the bedsheet in the window. You fold, which is crop, then you scale, which is width. Compress is putting the folded sheet in a thinner envelope. Envelope is kb. Window is px. Two different complaints from the same angry site.
On a Jaipur municipal form last July the error was only “invalid image”. No px, no kb. I opened the help pdf. 200 x 60, jpg, 20 kb. Cropped the signature, width 200, compress a little, 14 kb. Went through. Guessing 300 because a WhatsApp group said 300 would have failed the height.
If they wrote only height, our tool is width-first. You can guess width from the shape after crop, or use the passport resize tool where you type both px. For a signature strip I crop first so the remaining picture is already the shape of the box, then I set width to their number.
Scanner glass dirt becomes a grey cloud at 4000 px and a small smudge at 300. Resize will not clean it. Wipe the glass, scan again, then resize.
That is the note. Image wider than the form box. Crop the empty paper. Set width. Height follows. Then if they also shout about kb, compress. Open Resize Image and type the number from the form, not a number from a WhatsApp uncle.
