The button sits there grey. I poked it like a lift button. Nothing.
Three reasons I see every week. No file yet. File is over 20 MB. It is still working, wait a second.
Not a locked government portal. Just the tab. I missed all three on different days.
No file, too big, or still busy
If you did not drop anything, of course it is grey. The page is waiting. Big drop zone. Tap it. Pick a pdf for Merge PDF. Need two files for a merge. One file, it may still sit there looking bored.
JPG to PDF needs at least one jpg. If you picked a .docx by mistake, grey, or an error. Wrong type.
20 MB error. The page shows a plain message if bigger. People do not read it. They stare at the button. I did that with a 28 mb scanner pdf. Button will not save you. Shrink photos, or split, or use a smaller scan.
File Size Checker first. If checker itself refuses, the file is over our 20 MB cap too. Checker is the same family of drop.
Still working. Phone Chrome, two photos, one second. Ten photos, longer. A merge of four scans, the tab thinks. The button may stay disabled till it finishes. Wait. Do not reload in a panic. Reload kills the work.
Spinner, if there is one, let it spin. If the phone is hot and the tab died, then reload is the only way, and you start over. Originals are still on disk. Your file is not uploaded to our server, so there is no resume from our side.
Password pdf, merge cannot read, button may never happy. Unlock on PC first.
Live photo instead of jpg, same stuck feeling. Save a still.
I wait two seconds on laptop, five on the old Oppo.
Do not tap twenty times. You will get twenty downloads if it suddenly enables, or you will freeze the tab.
Ad on the page is not the download button. I have seen uncle tap the grey ad slot. Our button is on the tool card, after the drop.
If you zoomed the page, the button might look grey because it is under a keyboard on mobile. Scroll down. Close the keyboard.
Incognito, same rules.
Safari, wait a bit longer, then check you actually granted file access.
Tool by tool, what I forgot
Merge PDF Forgot second file. Forgot the list still processing. One file 21 mb, error, grey.
Split PDF Did not type a range. From page bigger than to page. Page count first with PDF Page Count so the range is real.
Rotate PDF Did not pick 90 or 180. Or did not drop.
Compress Image Did not drop, or dropped a pdf. It wants an image. Slider I moved, but I never waited for the new preview.
Resize Image Width box empty. Type a px.
PNG to JPG Dropped a jpg already. Tool expected png.
Images to PDF Grid No images yet.
Word Counter has no download sometimes, it is paste text. Wrong article if you are counting words. There is nothing to grey in the same way. This grey talk is for file tools.
Office intern thought grey meant we were charging money. No. It means not ready.
Another thought the site was blocked by the collectorate wifi. The page loaded. Ads loaded. Only download grey. That is not a block. That is no file.
If the whole page is white, that is a different fail. Refresh. Network. Grey button on a loaded tool is the three reasons.
20 MB is not Gmail 25 mb. You can be under Gmail and over us, 22 mb, or under us and over a 500 kb portal. Read the message on the page.
I put the error in my head as, tab RAM, not a moral judgement.
Compress the jpgs, make a new pdf, then merge small pdfs.
If you cannot shrink a true pdf like Adobe, we said so on the site. Do not wait for the grey button to become an Adobe compressor. Change the inputs.
Phone, file picker cancelled. You thought you dropped. You did not. Drop again. List should show a name.
If the name shows and button grey, wait, or size, or password.
I whisper size, wait, file. Like a checklist at the xerox.
When it finally turns blue
Download once. See Downloads. Open the file. Then upload wherever.
If it went grey again after download, that is some tools resetting. Fine. You already have the file.
If it never turns, try laptop. Phone Chrome is weak on fat files. I wrote that in the phone Chrome article.
Try another browser. Try a smaller sample file to see if the button can work at all. Two tiny pdfs. If those download, your original is the problem, not the site being dead.
Your file is not uploaded to our server. We cannot look up your job and enable the button from Jaipur HQ. There is no HQ looking at your pdf.
Privacy if someone in IT asks.
FileOnDesk is not Adobe and not the job portal. Grey on their portal is their validation. Grey here is our ready state.
I missed the 20 MB message because it was above the fold I was not looking. Scroll up. Read the red or the plain error.
Wait a second is literal. I count 1 2 3. If still grey and a file name is there and size is small, then type, password, or a stuck tab. Kill Chrome, come back, drop again.
Do not leave the phone in battery saver and expect a fast enable.
If two tabs of merge, you may have dropped in the other tab. I did that. Felt silly.
One tab. One drop. Wait. Download.
That is what I missed, most days. No file, over 20 MB, or still working.
A clerk in Kota sent a screenshot of a grey button on JPG to PDF. In the screenshot you could see the drop zone still saying drop a file. He had tapped the page background, not the zone. I told him tap the big blue area, pick the jpg, wait one second. The button came alive. He thought I did magic from Ajmer. I did not. He had missed the drop.
Another one dropped a 24 mb colour scan. The error about 20 MB was on screen in ordinary English. He scrolled past it because he wanted the button. The button will not argue. It just stays grey.
If you are on a very small phone, landscape, scroll till you see both the file name and the button. Sometimes the name is there and you are looking at a different card.
Compress Image then come back. PNG to PDF if your file is png not jpg. Right tool, right file, then wait.
Grey is not a fine. It is a pause.
