The drop zone only reads the file here
When you tap the big drop on Merge PDF, Chrome asks which file. You pick. The tab reads bytes on the device. Like opening a photo in gallery. Gallery does not email your photo to a stranger just because you opened it.
Same idea. Browser javascript does the join in memory. Download button writes a new file into Downloads. Originals stay where they were.
I close the tab after. Working copy in RAM is gone. Server never had it. I say that twice because people only hear the first half.

People mix this with Google Drive. Drive is an upload. This site is not Drive. No login. No folder named after you.
If the wifi icon is on, that does not mean the pdf went out. The page itself loaded from the internet. The file you dropped did not need to follow.
I tested with mobile data off after the page was open. Merge still ran for two small pdfs. That is the point. Work is local.

Office uncle still does not believe websites. He holds the phone like it will leak PAN. I show him airplane mode after load. He relaxes a bit. Then he still refuses to drop the bank pdf. Fine. Use a pen drive and a clerk laptop you trust. We are not forcing anyone.
20 MB cap is also local. If the file is bigger, the page says no. It does not upload 21 mb and then fail. It refuses in the tab.
Password files may fail for a different reason. Locked pdf, the library in the browser cannot read pages. That is not an upload either. It just cannot open the lock.
What stays on the phone after you download
Downloads folder gets the new merged file. Gallery may not show a pdf. Use Files app. Rename it. shop-licence-merged.pdf is better than a random string.
The two originals are still there. Merging does not delete them. I have seen people think the tool ate page 1. No. Page 1 is still the first file you dropped, inside the new pdf, and the old files remain.
If you merge A and B, you now have A, B, and A+B. Three files. Phone storage, your problem, not our server.
Clear Chrome cache if you want. That clears site files, not your Downloads. Do not clear Downloads by mistake when you are angry at Chrome.
WhatsApp, if you share the result, that is you sending it. FileOnDesk already finished. Chat is a new journey.
Same for the government portal. When you upload there, that portal stores it. Their rules. We already stepped out.
I keep saying this in the office because someone always asks, can FileOnDesk staff see my aadhaar. No. We do not get the file. Your file is not uploaded to our server.
If a site asked you to create an account to merge pdf, that is another site. We do not do accounts.
Incognito still downloads to the phone on many Androids. Check. The privacy of incognito is about history, not magic erase of Downloads.
If the tab crashed, the half-made pdf in memory is gone. Originals are not gone. Start again. Drop the same files.
People screenshot the drop zone as proof they uploaded. There is nothing to prove to us. We have no inbox of your pdfs.

I tell students, treat this like Paint on a school computer. You open, you save, you leave. The lab does not keep your drawing unless you saved to a shared drive. We do not even have a shared drive.
Panic after closing the tab
Yes the working copy is gone. No we did not store a backup. If you did not hit download, there is no result file. Originals on the phone are still yours.
That feels scary the first time. It is also the privacy. We cannot email you the merge later. We never had it.
So download before you close. Name the file. Move it to a folder you know. Pendrive if the office wants a copy on the front desk PC.
If you already closed and you did download, look in Downloads. Android sometimes puts it under Chrome. iPhone Files, On My iPhone, Downloads, or the share sheet location you picked.
Do not re-drop thinking that uploads a second time to us. There is no first time.

If your office policy bans all file websites, follow that. Local tool still means you opened a page. Some IT uncles hate that. Use the office approved machine then.
I put both scan in merge last Friday, closed Chrome to answer a call, forgot download. I had to merge again. Two minutes. Files were still in Documents. That is the trade. No cloud safety net. No cloud leak either.
